Accessibility Features
The NPDB web applications contain the following accessibility features:
- Content enables users to use assistive technologies such as screen readers and screen magnifier software.
- Content enables users to customize display attributes such as color, contrast, and font size. The latest versions of several web browsers allow users to easily increase the font size for better readability. Hold down the Ctrl key (Command key on a Macintosh) and press the + (plus) key. You can also decrease the font size by holding down the Ctrl or Command key and pressing the - (minus) key.
- The style sheets used to format page content on this site are designed using cascading style sheets. This allows visitors to disable the formatting provided and apply their own formatting if they choose. Style sheets are disabled within an Internet browser's settings or preferences options.
- Direct links to main sections of each page are provided for those using screen readers - screen readers tend to read pages from left to right and from top to bottom. The pages in the website provide internal bookmarks so that screen reader users can jump directly to specific sections of the page. This feature is referred to as a navigation menu bypass.
- Users may operate specific or equivalent features by using only the keyboard.
In addition, the website documentation includes the following features to aid accessibility:
- All documentation is available in either HTML or convertible PDF formats to give the maximum opportunity for users to apply screen-reader software.
- All images in the documentation are provided with alternative text so that users with vision impairments can understand the contents of the images.
The Health Resources and Services Administration provides additional accessibility information.
